As Dogs in Distress grew, so did the complexity of managing adoptions, foster carers, volunteers, donations and day-to-day administration. They needed much more than a visual website redesign. The charity needed a digital platform that could make it easier for people to adopt and foster dogs, improve fundraising and simplify some of the administrative work being handled by volunteers. Most importantly, the new experience needed to keep the dogs themselves at the heart of everything.
We started by understanding how Dogs in Distress actually operated — from adoption and foster applications to donations, volunteer workflows and website management. From there, we redesigned the website and customer journeys around the charity's most important actions: adopt, foster and donate. We also went beyond the public-facing website. Custom digital systems were developed to manage foster placements and adoptions, donation options were expanded to include recurring monthly giving, and simpler administration tools were introduced for volunteers. Finally, we provided bespoke documentation and training so the team could confidently manage the platform themselves.
The result is a completely transformed digital platform that better supports both the people using the website and the volunteers working behind the scenes.
Potential adopters can find and learn about available dogs more easily, foster and adoption applications have clearer journeys, supporters have more ways to donate, and recurring monthly donations provide an additional route to sustainable fundraising.
Behind the scenes, the custom database and administration tools have replaced disconnected manual processes with a more centralised system — giving volunteers more time to focus on the charity’s core mission.
